Happy Monday everyone! If you’re new here, hi, I’m Alex and I love my dog. Here’s a picture of my best friend and big baby, Soba.

A few months ago, a friend of mine recommended that I write a blog post about all the ways that this wonderful creature has changed my life. This post is a little bit like that, but I wanted to focus on the positives that ANYONE can experience with a new friend at home.

For a little background, Soba is almost 2 years old (human years, don’t ask me how old she is in dog years) and she is a Bernedoodle (mix between a Bernese Mountain dog and a Poodle) who weighs about 80 pounds. She is talkative, sassy, rambunctious, and kind to everyone. We got her from a lovely breeder and as of right now, the only problem with her is that her hair is a little too long.

*before we start, please remember that dogs are not toys; these animals should be welcomed into your home with a conscious decision and a promise to look after them properly and forever.*

Okay, now for the fun part. Let me convince YOU why you need a dog and how they can make your life 100x better.

5 reasons you need a dog, like, right now:

Connect with your inner child

Dogs are silly. Or at least mine is. I can almost guarantee you that your pup, too, will have a wild personality. These animals love to play and surround themselves with things that make them happy and comfortable. Seeing Soba grow, I realize that all she wants is to have fun and be loved. Similar to what we all need as humans. She reminds me to dig my fingers into the grass, roll around in the dirt, and let my voice be heard. Dogs are pretty great de-stressers – so having one at home is basically like a free therapy session.

Discover a love for the outdoors

It’s no secret that the bigger the dog, the longer the walk they need. I really began to see a difference in Soba’s energy level after about a year of having her. I realized that she had way too much energy for short 20 minute walks. So I had to get creative about where we walked and how long we went for. This actually ties in nicely with my post about walking. It was important to me to find new trails to walk with her that were new for both of us. This really helped me dive deep into nature, in any season. Remember, dogs need to be walked EVERY DAY. As for my mountain dog, she absolutely does not care what the weather is, so appreciate those long walks and discover something new about your neighbourhood, even if its bloody cold out.

Help you get and stay active

Similar to above, I do all that I can to drain this dog of her energy. We play outside about 3 times a day and go for at least one nice long walk. Not only is this great for helping Soba sleep, it’s also a great way for me to get my steps in. All day I sit at my desk, so I make it a point to get out with her as much as possible and kick around a ball, chase her down, and get my heart rate up.

Make new friends

Depending on where you live or what your lifestyle, you may need to bring your dog to daycare or a dog park. Nothing wrong with that, I actually love both of these things. Soba goes to The Dog Haus for daycare and she frequently visits our local dog park. While these formal senses of community are great to give your dog friends and you, dogs are also great when meeting strangers out and about. Most dog walkers are super friendly, so on our daily walks we often will stop and say hey to other pups we pass. Soba gets a great new friend and it’s pretty helpful for me to get some human interaction in too.

Feel less lonely

Or, you know, feel MORE happy. I think I can speak for my whole family in saying that Soba has brought us more laughter and joy than we have ever had before. Having an animal around to put the focus on, I have found, is really helpful for the family dynamic. Even for someone who lives alone, another soul is the space with you makes you feel like you can have someone to talk to. Who knows, you may even get one who talks back to you (like mine). Soba is like a shadow dog in my house – she follows you anywhere you go, especially when theres food. She makes me feel protected and sane and happy and silly and crazy all at the same time. Basically, she is a girls best friend, 10000%.

we love to snuggle

That’s it you guys. The 5 best things about these furry animals. I’m telling you, you won’t regret it. And if you do, there are always options to get your pup the care they need.

That’s what I got today for you all. If you want to see more about my sweet Soba girl (she’s on my IG every day so be sure to follow me there), let me know below! See you bitches tomorrow, x

no sound needed, just soba being silly
